Ketamine Assisted EMDR Therapy (KA-EMDR)
KA-EMDR is an integrative approach that combines ketamine-assisted psychotherapy with EMDR, designed to support deeper, more efficient trauma processing. My approach is modeled after the training and protocol developed by Danielle Ciccone and Michele Topol, which shapes how I structure and pace this work.
By pairing ketamine's ability to soften the nervous system's usual defenses with EMDR's structured processing, this approach can make it possible to access and work through traumatic material that has felt too overwhelming to approach through traditional talk therapy or EMDR alone.
KA-EMDR therapy can create the conditions for deeper, more efficient trauma processing than EMDR alone.

KA-EMDR pairs ketamine's ability to soften the nervous system's defenses with EMDR's structured processing (eye movements, tapping, or alternating tones) to work through traumatic memories that might otherwise feel too overwhelming to approach. The result is often deeper, more efficient processing than EMDR alone. There will be preparation beforehand and integration afterward to help you carry the shifts into daily life.

Most people describe the ketamine experience as dreamlike or floaty, with a sense of distance from everyday thoughts. Within that state, we do EMDR's bilateral stimulation while working through specific memories. Physically, it's common to feel some dizziness or mild disorientation, which fades within an hour or so. You'll need a ride home afterward. Because ketamine softens the nervous system's usual defenses, many people find it easier to stay with difficult material without becoming overwhelmed.

This varies by person and by what you're working on. Most people start with a series of sessions to build momentum, then move to an as-needed schedule based on progress. We'll talk through a plan tailored to your specific goals and history.
At the end of the day, I want you to know:
KA-EMDR isn't about erasing what happened. It's about helping you carry it differently, so it no longer runs the show.

KA-EMDR tends to work best for people who've already tried traditional talk therapy or EMDR and still feel stuck, or who are dealing with trauma that's felt too overwhelming to approach directly. Because ketamine is a prescription medication, you'll also need to be medically cleared by a prescribing provider before starting. We'll talk openly together about your history, goals, and whether this approach is the right fit before moving forward.

Sessions begin with preparation, where we clarify your intentions and what to expect. Once the ketamine takes effect, we move into EMDR processing using eye movements, tapping, or alternating tones to work through specific memories or material while you're in that more open, less defended state. A KA-EMDR session lasts 1 hour and 40 minutes.

No. KA-EMDR isn't something you need to "graduate into" from traditional EMDR. Some people come to it after finding standard EMDR too activating or slow-going, while others start here because it feels like the right fit for what they're working through. We'll talk about your history and figure out the best starting point together.

I'll connect you with a prescribing provider as part of the process, you won't need to source it on your own. Once you're medically cleared, the prescription and medication logistics are handled through them, while my role stays focused on the therapeutic preparation, session support, and integration work.

KAP is open-ended, exploratory psychotherapy during the ketamine experience. KA-EMDR uses that same altered state within the structure of EMDR, specifically to reprocess traumatic memories. Which one fits depends on what you're working on.
